Montessori Radmoor

Week of 10/20/17

Dear Parents,

This week, we have been talking about positive self-talk and setting goals in our morning meetings. We encourage the children to set goals for themselves daily, these goals should be things that they are able to do successfully on their own while being a challenge for them. We always talk about how it is important to be nice to others; however, we sometimes forget to talk about being nice to ourselves. One way we spoke about this was to have the students say, “I could use more practice with cursive” rather than, “I’m really bad at cursive.”

First levels are naming all the noun families that they can. Even “the tall Ms. Sara” has gotten a label. Seconds and thirds are diving deeply into the function of the adverb and the pronoun.

Many people are busy practicing the large bead frame, reading and adding numbers up to the millions family, while others are multiplying large numbers on the checkerboard. Some folks are busy making up and decorating different fact families.

Biology has been a huge hit this week also. Students have been learning about different ways to categorize leaves and how noticing differences in leaves can help them identify the trees they come from.

We have also had a few independent studies happening this week. One group is really focused on Native Americans, a second group is learning all about bugs and where their natural habitat is and another person is really interested in brachiopods.

It really has been a great learning week paired with some cooking and getting to know our favorite character from our read aloud book, Clementine.

As a reminder, if you haven’t turned in your child’s permission slip, for our field trip to Uncle John’s Cider Mill, on Tuesday, October 24th, please do so, as soon as possible. Also, be sure to pack a snack and a lunch for your child that day in a sack lunch. Everything should be disposable.

Peace,
Ms. Sara, Ms. Danielle and Mr. Ben
