Dear Parents,

Well, winter is surely here. The students have enjoyed this last deluge of snow. It was finally enough to have some fun with! As a reminder please remember that if Okemos public schools are closed due to inclement weather we are also closed. Our administration also sends out emails to all the families.

Next week we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on the 12th as we have Friday the 13th off for winter break. The children may bring in Valentines for every student. (There are 8). We will also have ice skating in the afternoon, which is always a blast. Thank you to all the parents who are able to help us transport the students to Suburban Ice for this tradition.

Currently we have a variety of lessons going on in the classroom. We are investigating the 20 essential amino acids and proteins. Parallel to this study we are looking at the nutritional value of the plants we eat, as well as, their history and native origin. The children are encouraged but not required to find a recipe that they would like to make. The children are also enjoying an exposure to French by MSU student Emma Dunn.  She will be providing a recap of her lessons in a couple of weeks.

Thank you all for having your student in class by 8:45 a.m.  This guarantees that your child will not miss the first important lesson of the day. It is usually a large group lesson in any of the subject areas.

First Friday is March 6th from 8:45-9:15 a.m.  Remember to please sign up for conferences on I volunteer. Conferences will be held on March 13th from 8:30 am – 3:30pm.

Remember that there are 6 more weeks of winter or 6 weeks until spring!
