Dear Parents,

With a bit of an extended winter break your children are getting back into the swing of things here in the classroom.  Because of the weather we have had many indoor recess days as our school police for elementary states that we stay in when the temperature is below 0 with wind chill.

Last week our day of school was filled with the French language and talking about Mardi Gras. Miss Emma even brought in a King cake (minus the baby in the cake) for the children to enjoy for Fat Tuesday. We missed Chinese New Year but I am still planning on discussing it with the children. It is a great way to explore the importance of a lunar calendar and the phases of the moon.

In your mailboxes you will find a sheet that will give you information on the upper elementary trip to Chicago that the 6th years are planning. Thank you to Miss Melinda Schultz who has come in to help them get organized. The dates we have planned are March 19 and 20. We will be going to visit The Art Institute of Chicago specifically to see the Armory as part of a study for International Night. The 6th years are in charge of planning the trip from the train to the bus system, making reservations at the hotel and reserving tickets at the museum for our tour. Here is a link to the museum: http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/armor

Camp Meeting: There is a camp meeting for parents on March 19th at 6:00 p.m. The staff from Miniwanca will be here to answer any questions you may have.   You may visit their website for more information at http://www.ayf.com/miniwanca

Bagel Breakfast: A reminder that there is a bagel breakfast Friday, February 27th. This is a great opportunity to take a bit of time out of your day to spend time with your child, their friends, and other parents. You are helping the elementary community run a child led business that allows us to take trips (like the Chicago trip), and donate to charity.

Please make sure to check your family mailboxes every day as this time of year becomes busy with many activities such as: MSU Science Fair, Chicago Trip, Camp, Art Show, International Night, and Class Auction Projects,  just to name a few.

Last but not least, please remember to sign up for conferences on Ivolunteer for Friday, March 13th. A very appropriate date!

Thank you for reading!

Christine
