Montessori Radmoor

I have had a great time being back in the classroom. It has been a pleasure getting to know your children and working with them. We have spent a lot of time with grace and courtesy lessons. Some of the simple grace and courtesy lessons we are working on are: using their walking feet in the room, pushing in their chair, and using quiet inside voices, We are also practicing what to do if they bump into another child, how they should talk to a child who is touching their work, and what to do if the child doesn’t listen to them.

We have already had children missing class due to cold symptoms. We have been practicing the proper way to cough and/or sneeze into our sleeve to help prevent the spread of germs.  We are also practicing how to wipe our nose then wash our hands with soap and water.  We sing the happy birthday song, including the how old are you part, to help the children learn how long to scrub with soap.

As I observe the activities the children are choosing on their own, I see work in all of the areas of art, practical life, sensorial, math, geography and language. The two favorite areas seem to be art and geography. Children are using the puzzle maps, pushpin continents, and the tracing and coloring the continents. The older children are making their own maps and writing the names of the continents and countries.

We are off to a great start!

The potluck on October 10th is a great opportunity to see some of the activities your children enjoy. Hope to see you there. To sign up: http://radmoor.ivolunteer.com/
