Autumn Greetings!

The first month of school has gone by so quickly and our little community is settling in wonderfully. Old friendships have been rekindled, new relationships are being explored, old lessons are being continually rediscovered, and new lessons are being joyfully experienced.

As the children get settled into the environment, it is not unusual for them to experience difficulty with toileting. Often a child may find themselves engaged in an activity and forget to use the bathroom. While we encourage them to use the bathroom often, sometimes it is a little late. It is helpful if they have clothing that they are able to remove and wear easily. Leggings and elastic waist pants allow the child to use the bathroom independently and successfully.

Sound is taking shape around our environment in a myriad of ways. Many of the children have been exploring letter sounds and identifying words that begin with different sounds. Others are identifying the letters associated with the sounds and a few are also discovering how to use those sounds to create words. While exploring sounds within words, a few children have been finding letters that come together to make a different sound altogether.

We are also exploring sound in terms of pitch, volume and rhythm through different activities in the environment. The children are using the sound boxes and the bells to tune their sense of hearing different pitches and volumes. Some of the children have even been playing a few of our classroom songs on the bells!

Our Fall Family Potluck is a fun way for your child to introduce you to some of their favorite work in the classroom. Our potluck is scheduled for Thursday, October 5th from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Please bring a dish to pass, get to meet the other P1 families and let your child share a little bit of their school day with you. We hope to see you all there.

Sincerely,

Archana
