Montessori Radmoor

Hello everyone!

It has been so wonderful to enjoy the lovely weather we’ve been having – we are spending more time outdoors playing and exploring in the environment.  Our surroundings and environment have been a point of focus for us in the last few weeks. The days building up to Earth Day we celebrated by discussing all of the ways we effect our planet and our own neighborhoods.  The children came up with things that have a negative impact on our environment, and different things WE can do to help change that and take care of our earth.  We spent time working on the trails and Elementary playground.  We picked up garbage, sticks and spread mulch on the nature path.  On our outings, I heard some of the children talking about how the earth was “waking up!” from its long sleep, and they were observing small plants sprouting and buds forming.  You can see them putting together the concepts of growth in relation to our sun and how important a healthy planet is for our own well being.

In the classroom we are in full spring mode!  The children have been working on individual seed plantings that they can bring home.  The seed planting is a work on the shelf that allows them to construct a pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil, plant the seed and take it home with them to watch it grow. This year we are able to supplement their plantings with some of our very healthy worm castings from our worm condo in the classroom – it has been a HUGE success again this year!  The children have been so attentive and nurturing to our worms, and the growth in population is the evidence- we have baby worms galore and have even donated many to our greenhouse beds.  Ask your child to show you sometime; it is so cool.

A huge thank you to everyone that helped to make our International Night such a wonderful success!  The food was amazing, and a special “thank you” for everyone who prepared and provided a delicious meal for the event.  P3 transformed into North America in record time this year with tons of help from our classroom coordinator Nicole Ruiz, Paula Shoup, Jillian Winn, Sonja Revis, Lori Fluker, Nathan Heim and Sheena from upper elementary.  Thank you all for your help — the room looked amazing!  Thank you also to all of our demolition crew: The Zaman family, the Winn family, the Heim family, the Ross family and the Ruiz-Singo family.  You all not only helped to deconstruct and rearrange the classroom, but also managed to load all of my design equipment back into my van!!!  The entire school looked amazing and the children had such a wonderful time.  Thank you to everyone for their immense support for this community event.

As the year comes to an end, a number of activities celebrate our community, including a Parent and Volunteer Appreciation Day, with snacks at pick-up and drop -off times on Friday, June 2nd.

Our Radmoor Elementary Music program will be June 6th at 7 p.m. The children of Primary 3 create the decorations for the performance Kelly Herald teaches music for the elementary students, and this is a highlight of the year.

Our last day of school is Wednesday, June 14th.   Wishing you all a wonderful summer of fun and adventure!

Here’s to warmer weather and enjoying the days of longer light!

Peace,

Trish
