Hello everyone!
It is wonderful to be back and sharing the days with your children! We are always so amazed at the growth of all the children over the summer months – things they have learned and all the maturation that occurs, physically and socially.
Our classroom has been so lively – old friends reuniting and new friends asking questions, getting to know each other and exploring their new environment together. Last week, Greenhouse Julie came in to give us our new classroom pets…1000 red wigglers!! Julie spent some time talking with the children about vermiculture, composting with the use of worms. We talked about what and how often we will feed them, and how to care for our new friends. Since the arrival of our ravenous worms, we have fed them some delicious fruit scraps and kept their home nice and moist by spraying their environment daily. Even those children who thought that having worms in the classroom was absolutely “icky and gross” at first, now find digging for them in their “condo” quite fun!
We have shared in celebrating a few birthdays in the classroom already this year. Please be sure to contact me regarding when you might be able to join us to celebrate your child’s day of birth with a “Walk Around the Sun” celebration. This is a wonderful time to share some exciting details of your child’s life thus far- where were they born, when did they walk or talk, what do they like to do now, and the children’s favorite question: what do they like to eat!!
Please remember, if you have not yet turned in your activity fee of $20, please do so as soon as possible, as the monies are used for various classroom projects throughout the course of the year. Also, don’t forget to sign up for conferences, as times fill up fast!
