Here we are just a few months away from International night.  But, what is International Night?  Everyone in the school knows and loves this special occasion.  If you’re new to the school this year you may not know.  International Night is grand event put on by the whole school.  Each classroom transforms their classrooms into lands far away.  The children and teachers work for a few months to put on this special event.  Each classroom concentrates on one continent.

The toddler classrooms work together on one continent. The toddlers enjoy painting and coloring cardboard and paper so the teachers and volunteers can cut and make fish or flowers or flags for this special day.  This year the toddler classrooms will work on Australia.  Look for the mysterious pink lake, Australia’s famous opera house, and much more.

The primary and elementary classrooms put a lot of time and effort into their classrooms.  The children make projects for the continent that was chosen for their class.  With the help of volunteers and teachers, the children research countries in their continent.  In the past the children have used posters, clay, paint, and paper mache’ to create representations of other countries.

All of the children in the school come to International Night representing their own country with traditional dress.  Parents will dress up as well. Because we have so many families that represent so many countries around the world, it’s a beautiful sight to behold.

Each room has arts and crafts, games, and much more…  When the children walk in the door they get a passport. When you go to each room your child receives a stamp for that continent. The children love to collect the stamps and see each room and what new adventure awaits them.

One of the best parts of International Night is the wonderful food that is donated from families.  Each continent is represented and the food is heavenly.  This event is so well attended and known for such delicious food that there is usually a line to get into the gym. So, plan your night accordingly.  I can’t tell you how fun this night can be, and it’s a great time to be social and enjoy the school.  It’s a learning experience for the children and a chance to show the parents what their child has learned.  It’s a night of celebrating diversity.

Join us on Friday, May 15th.  Don’t forget to bid on our auction projects made by the primary and elementary students.  I can’t wait!
