In July 2023 the school’s arborist conducted a regular inspection of the trees on our beautiful campus and discovered that a white pine in close proximity to the beloved climbing tree had developed crown death due to rust fungus. This tree would need to be cut down. Children enrolled in the summer camp at that time had a chance to witness this tree being cut down. The school decided to preserve a 10 foot stump of this tree and hire a local chain saw carver, Jim Barnes, to create something beautiful out of it. Thus, a wading bird with two little friends, the otters, were born.
