Montessori Radmoor

Week of 5/11/18

Dear Parents,

This week has been busy for the children! They have been finishing up their Mother’s Day gifts, getting ready for the potluck and working on projects for International Night! They are very excited for all three of these events.

I also want to than Sarah-Beth (Felix’s mom) and Mia (Lily’s mom) for helping out on Thursday. Sarah-Beth took some children and painted the Sydney opera house for international night. Mia took some children and painted a scene from New Zealand. It was such a huge help and the children loved to paint in the gym.

Congratulations to Felix who completed the 1000 chain on his own! He very quickly got the idea to look for the number that’s ten higher.

With international night approaching we have incorporated many of the Australian wildlife into our art shelf. The children have been making crabs, jelly fish, fish, clams, cocktails and snakes. The children have been very involved in creating almost everything for our classroom decorations. International night will be an opportunity for all to see their hard work.

Week of 5/4/18

Dear Parents,

We want to thank Mr. Ed Smith for coming in and talking to the kindergartners again. This time he discussed the idea of pushes (force). The children used the same pucks (jar lids) as they did last time and practiced aiming for a target on the ground. They discussed the direction they had to push to get the puck to move and the size of the push.

Ed posed the question “How can we hit the target every time?” Then the children were given pushers to help them hit the target. The pushers were tinker toys and rubber bands constructed into a tool the children could use to move the lids without using their hands to push them. The children were so excited to try out the pushers. They took turns aiming for the target. Ed pointed out that the pushers were labeled with numbers so the children could see how big their push was.

The children then were able to come together to discuss the result of their practice with the lids and pushers. It was a great lesson that all the kindergartners participated in.

Our classroom potluck is on Friday, May 11. It starts at 5:30 and ends at 7. It is a great time to get to know other families in P2 and for your child to give you some lessons on what they know. You can sign up on iVolunteer bring a dish to pass. We hope to see you there!
