Montessori Radmoor

The move from a small Montessori environment to a larger conventional school can feel daunting for families—but it doesn’t have to be. Our middle school program is intentionally designed to bridge this transition.

We know some nerves are natural and transitions always have their challenges. Afterall, learning to adapt to progressively more complex environments and relationships is an important part of growing up. Here, we are intentional about helping our students grow academically and socially so they enter high school feeling capable, confident, and ready.

A Community That Builds Social Readiness

Our small class size is purposeful, intentional, and developmentally optimal. Research on effective middle‑grade education consistently shows that small learning communities help young adolescents thrive during an otherwise challenging developmental phase. It allows them to build stronger and more productive peer relationships and take on meaningful roles within a community–all while receiving constant, individualized mentorship from adults who specialize in adolescent development.

These experiences create a foundation of confidence and resilience. By the time they enter a larger high school setting, students know how to find belonging, advocate for themselves, and navigate new responsibilities and social spaces.

Academic Foundations for Future Success

Our middle school schedule mirrors much of the structure and similar expectations students will see in high school: prompt transitions between classes, deadlines, project planning, assessments and regular feedback on work. Students work with print, digital, and hands‑on materials as they master 7th and 8th grade standards across core subjects.

By graduation from middle school, they understand the rigor of secondary coursework and have developed the time‑management, study, and organizational skills to adapt successfully.

Guided Transition Support

To make the shift even smoother, we offer:

  • High school shadow days for 8th year students
  • Recommendation letters for private high school applications, when needed
  • Standardized testing preparation
  • Official transcripts and evaluation reports sent directly to the high school of choice
  • Educational Development Plans (EDPs): Michigan requires all students to begin an Educational Development Plan in middle school. This living document tracks a student’s interests, strengths, and future goals—and helps guide decisions about high school coursework and beyond. In the middle school, students build their EDP through a series of Michigan‑aligned lessons and activities integrated into our Advisory program, exploring possible careers, personal strengths, and the transition to high school. The EDP follows them to high school, where it is updated every year. We will be using the same online platform used by Okemos High School and many others in the area, so the transfer of this document will be quick and seamless.

Our goal is to help each adolescent enter high school with clarity, confidence, and a strong sense of self.
