Last week, six Radmoor students boarded a plane bound for New York City to take part in the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) conference—an unforgettable experience blending global citizenship, academic challenge, and a big‑city adventure.
The conference took place in the heart of Times Square at the Marriott Marquis, where students from around the world gathered to debate solutions to real issues on the UN Agenda. The week kicked off with a visit to the United Nations Headquarters itself, including an opening ceremony in the iconic General Assembly Hall.
Representing Nations
Working in pairs, students stepped into the role of diplomats, each representing a different country and topic.
In preparation, each student wrote a formal position paper and an opening speech—some of the most technical academic writing they have done so far. They pushed themselves to research global challenges, use evidence strategically, cite sources properly, and develop advanced vocabulary.

Diplomacy in Action
Throughout the conference, our students represented their assigned nations, themselves, and Radmoor with maturity and confidence. In their committees, we watched them independently:
- Engage with peers from across the globe
- Speak thoughtfully about complex world issues
- Collaborate respectfully
- Take initiative in drafting and negotiating resolutions
By the end of each committee session, formal and detailed resolutions to their global problems were crafted—documents that ultimately make their way to the desk of the Secretary‑General of the United Nations.
Leadership on the Big Stage
We are proud to share that two Radmoor students, Gwen and Mateo, were nominated and elected by their peers to speak at the closing ceremony.
These nominations recognized not only their own excellence, but also the contributions of their partners, Ryder and Josephine. Gwen and Mateo took the stage in front of a crowd of a couple thousand people at the closing ceremony—an incredible honor and a moment that highlighted just how much leadership all of our students demonstrated throughout the conference.
A Little NYC Adventure
Despite a packed conference schedule, the group carved out a bit of time to enjoy the city. Students laced up ice skates for an evening at Rockefeller Center and explored Times Square for lunches, dinners, and souvenir shopping. They also enjoyed “MMUN Social Night” in the Marriott Marquis ballroom, which featured a DJ and live music! These small but fun moments helped make the trip even more memorable.
A Week to Remember
From researching global issues to collaborating with international peers to experiencing the energy of New York City, our Radmoor delegates embraced every part of the MMUN experience.
We are immensely proud of their curiosity, effort, leadership, and integrity. Their work, their voices, and the resolutions they helped craft are now part of something much larger—a global conversation about building a better world.
We’re already excited about taking next year’s team of delegates!
Coming Soon!
Elsa and Emily are developing and producing a documentary about the experience, which will premiere at International Night!
