Happy Spring Elementary families!

The classroom has been abuzz with the excitement of spring and new lessons.  Our seeds we planted are growing beautifully; we have our fingers crossed that we can plant them outside for Earth Day.

Every year the elementary classes celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up the playground and working in the greenhouse.  We also have some fun activities and games planned for the day and will be eating lunch outside if the weather is nice.  Continuing with our spring fever we have been discussing plants and food, correlating the vegetable plants we grow and how they turn into food on our table.

The upper elementary class made pasta sauce with the tomatoes we grew in our greenhouse, so our students will have a chance to taste their product and see the full cycle of farm to table food.  In preparation for testing that our second and third years will be taking after spring break, we have been working on various charts.  These charts include sentence analysis practice, cause and effect, working with multiple choice questions and fill in the blank options.  We have also dived into the world of factoring, squaring, area and perimeter.  Our students are really enjoying creating different shapes and investigating abstract perimeter work.

At the end of the month we will travel off to our student’s favorite trip, camp!  In preparation for camp, the upper elementary students shared their camp experiences with our first years which included stories, pictures and songs.  We have also started to create some International Night projects which will start to unfold beautifully within the next month.  Our class is South America this year, so if you have any books, materials or items that you would like to share to enrich our learning of the continent that would be wonderful!

Have a great month,

Danielle
