Montessori Radmoor

This month the children have been working on a variety of materials. I have seen quite a few maps being made and continent pin punching has been popular. These activities allow the children to practice their fine motor skills, as well as, develop their vocabulary. The moveable alphabet has been used to sound out words using the picture vocabulary cards and also to make stories. Several children are working on sounding words out by using the red readers (phonetic books).
The golden bead materials have been frequently practiced as the children learn about units, tens, hundreds and thousands. Several children have just started addition with the golden beads. The parts of the skeleton book have just been put on the shelf and the children have been excited to learn the names of the bones in our body.
If anyone has a special talent, celebration, or a hobby that you would like to share with the class we would love to have you visit our community. For example, in the past we have had parents help celebrate Chinese New Year. We also have had a parent bring different kinds of beetles and talk about their characteristics. Please contact me if you are interested.
On Friday, November 21st is Special Person’s Day. If you haven’t designated a special visitor for your child, you still can. It is a great day to let your child guide a special person in their life through their classroom and the school community.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at conferences.

Sincerely,
Rachel
