Montessori education has historically focused on care for the environment and our place in the world around us. We celebrate Earth Day each year, with projects that improve our grounds, including the playground. If you have some extra time on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22nd, we would welcome volunteers. (Last year, we improved the mulch on our playground.) More information will follow in our Montessori Minutes that are sent home via email each week.
With the warmer weather, we are really enjoying our outside time. Even though it’s warmer and the snow has disappeared, the grounds are wet, so parents need to make sure that children have adequate clothing to wear.
The single biggest event of our spring season is International Night. The school is transformed into the continents of the world the evening of May 15. School is closed at noon this day, as staff and volunteers decorate and plan activities for the classrooms. Primary 3 will become Africa, and if you have any artifacts to share, or personal experience with travel to Africa, we welcome your involvement. Of course, even if you don’t have experience, we will welcome volunteers as well. It takes many hands to put on a great event. Please plan to contribute to our International Food Court that night as well. Our gymnasium welcomes a bounty of delicious food from around the globe from our favorite international community – our families. It’s truly a highlight of the season, and a chance to connect outside of the school day. Besides, who doesn’t enjoy eating dinner with friends!
So many families enjoyed our PGA-sponsored movie night last weekend. What a great time, with popcorn and a movie to share. Thanks to PGA officers who are always thinking of different ways to expand our community.
Each family has now had a chance (or will in April) to bring snack to our classroom. So, we welcome donations from families who would like to bring snacks – fresh fruits and vegetables, crackers, bagels are popular choices. Snack time occurs each morning, and is a popular way to take a break during a busy work cycle. Families don’t need to sign up, but can simply bring donations. Thank you!
I so enjoy talking with you about the progress your child is making. If you need to talk to me about a concern, drop off time and pick up time can be extremely busy. Please send me an email or leave a phone message, and I will respond as soon as my schedule allows. Your concerns are important to me.
Trish
