Montessori Radmoor

Greetings!

I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving and enjoyed some time with your awesome children.  We had had a very busy build up to the Thanksgiving break…

First there was Special Person’s Day- what a huge success!!  All of our children had a special someone present, so thank you to all of you for making that happen.  It is such a fun and exciting day at the school.  The children are so anxious to share works they are practicing and to just share their environment with their loved ones.  Always a pleasure to see returning guests and meet new ones- I even got to see one of my friends from my college years- great to see you Kelly!  A special thanks to those of you who volunteered your time to help prepare for the event, were here to help, or made some of that delicious food!  Thanks to all of you, it is definitely a communal effort.

Next, was a school visit on the 24th, from my friends, Tami Averill and her husband, Donn.  Tami and Donn came dressed in Civil War era attire, to share a little with us about crafts from that time period.  They brought with them a collection of historical reproductions centered on the art of candle making.  Ask your child if they know what a “hurricane lantern” is.  Can they tell you how it got its name?

Tami and Donn spent the morning with us, sharing their love of history and helping each of us to create a special holiday gift.  Here’s a hint: they may all have a greater appreciation of electricity!

photo  That next day before we left for break, we spent some time reflecting on the journey of the Pilgrims to America and what their first Thanksgiving was really like.  We discussed how it was a celebration of their successful partnership with the Native Americans, which led to a talk about friends, and how we can’t do without them!  This is one of the many things for which to be thankful.

On a school wide note, the Elementary Music Program will be held on December 16th at 7pm.  Our classroom helps to create the decorations for this lovely pre-Holiday event.  The children enjoy seeing their creations adorning the stage with their older friends performing amongst them.  Please join us, it’s a fun evening!

In the next couple of weeks you will be receiving your child’s progress reports.  Please check your family mailbox for these, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

As always, be sure to take the time to talk with your child about the changes you see in your surroundings, helping to build a connection between them and their environment and an appreciation in their world.

Enjoy this beautiful month of December and the joy that comes with it.

Trish
