Happy February and Happy Chinese New Year!
For a moment I would like you to reflect on how you feel when you see someone you love- your child, spouse or partner. What does your heart do? Do you get excited to see them?
Does your heart beat faster? I can tell you that when your child sees you coming (most of the time!) they get excited, sometimes they jump up and down, sometimes they even screech! This is love.
In class, we have been discussing why the heart is the symbol of love. When we see our loved ones, our brain sends a message to our heart, and a sort of “alarm” goes off. We get excited and the brain triggers the heart to pump more blood, and it does, faster and faster. So, why doesn’t the brain get more credit when it comes to love? 🙂
A very Happy New Year to all of you celebrating the year of the horse! I would like to thank Peilei, Amber’s mother, for coming in to our classroom to celebrate Chinese New Year with us. She spent the morning with the children and talked about how people celebrate the New Year’s festivities, shared some beautiful art with us, stories, and some delicious dumplings! Peilei worked with each child to create their animal year in Chinese calligraphy. Thank you again, the children loved it!
On Thursday, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day in our classroom. The children have decorated bags to collect Valentines and will be giving out their cards throughout the morning. Please remember, cards do not need to be individually labeled with recipients names- this is much easier for our non-readers, as each child will be doing their own exchange.
Just a reminder to label any new outdoor gear that your child may bring to wear at school, and don’t forget to sign up for March conferences on I volunteer.
Have a lovely President’s Day Weekend!
