Montessori Radmoor

I love Fall! I love the colors and the earthy smell and feel of the crisp fall air, and I truly love the variety in the weather.  It has been a nice time to be outside, working and playing.  The children have really enjoyed moving the mulch around on the playground and preparing the outdoor environment for the winter months.  A huge “THANKS!” to all of you that came out on Friday for the PGA Cider and Donuts gathering, it was a great event. Mulch arrived on Friday morning, and by 5:30pm it was all spread!  Our school has received some lovely sprucing up this fall.  Our new exterior paint has really brightened up our building and the surrounding grounds are also getting some well needed attention.

In the classroom, we have been discussing what a nocturnal animal is, the kinds of things they eat, where they live and how they differ from other animals.  See if they can name a few…one of our favorites, the bat!  The children have been cutting out their own bats and hanging them about our room- we love when one of them “dives” (or falls:) from the ceiling.  As Halloween approaches, we begin to see an abundance of one of the favorite costumes and decorations: the human skeleton.  I love to use this time to talk about our bones and how they are all connected, and also how our skeleton is our “frame”, what our body is built upon.  The human skeleton is fascinating to children of all ages, and this is a wonderful time of year to discuss it.

The children are enjoying learning about each other, and connecting names and faces.  We are working on lessons about Grace and Courtesy.  We often role play various scenarios, like waiting patiently and not interrupting lessons; raising our hand to speak when in a group; being respectful of others work by not touching.  We all learn from each other and this early part of the year is a perfect time to reinforce these life skills.

Conference time is quickly approaching and many of you have already signed up to meet with me about your child’s progress and work.  If you haven’t signed up, please do so at Ivolunteer. It’s always such a pleasure to meet with all of you and spend some time sharing stories about what your child is doing in the classroom.  Conference days are October 29th and 30th.

I know it’s rough, but colder weather is around the corner.  Please ensure that your child comes to school prepared to go outside at recess- in the very near future that may mean hats, boots, mittens and yes, snow pants.  That first snowfall can catch us off-guard, so be prepared!  Please be sure to label all of these items, especially the boots and snow pants, as many of them look very similar.

On a school wide note, November 6th is “Taste of Radmoor” from 7-11pm.  This is a fun event, and is for Adults only.  There is a Live Auction and dancing- and I might even serve you a drink and appetizers for sampling!  This is a lovely night to hang out with friends and meet some new ones.  Hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Trish
