Montessori Radmoor

I hope everyone had a restful winter break and snow days.

The classroom has been busy with activity since we returned. The children are engaging with lessons and friends with renewed energy. Language is stealing the spotlight these days with some children working on discovering their sounds and exploring how these sounds make up words. Others are working on expressing themselves through the written word and discovering the intricacies of spelling and grammar. Cursive is also making a comeback with the older friends in the classroom.

This is also the time when the older children participate in the Reading Buddies Program where they get to practice their reading once a week with an older mentor from the Elementary classrooms. The program has created some excitement in the afternoons with the children wanting to practice their reading even on days when we don’t have reading buddies!

The weather continues to be cold and unpredictable and we have been trying to go outside when the temperatures permit, to enjoy some fresh air and snow. We will continue to do that as long as the temperatures stay above 12°F. Please make sure your child has weather appropriate outerwear. Also, check your child’s extra clothing at school to make sure they have warm clothing. An extra sweater/sweatshirt often comes in handy when they feel cold inside the classroom.

Stay warm and safe.
