Toddler 2 October Blog

Each month, the toddler staff makes changes to the environment. These changes keep the space fresh and enticing to our busy learners. We change the books on the shelf, art hung on the walls, music in the tape recorder and some of the activities on the shelves. The same skills are being developed and strengthened, but in new slightly more challenging ways. During the month of October, we will explore the changing weather and landscapes. We will take walks outside in the woods. Make collections of interesting things we find there (colorful leaves, pinecones etc .), and visit the ever changing greenhouse. You may also see your child scrubbing a pumpkin, feeling bumpy and smooth gourds, tasting root vegetables and matching or sorting autumn related pictures and items.

Parent teacher conferences are coming up. This is a great opportunity for us (parent and teachers only) to sit down and speak one on one about their child’s daily activities at school, as well as, their development and tips on continuing the curriculum at home. Please sign up for a conference time on i volunteer. You can access this site through our new and fantastic Montessori  Radmoor website.

Also, this month we will be taking informal toddler photos in the classroom on the morning of October 30th. In the past, we have had the toddlers take school photos like the older children. However, what we have observed is that this process is very unsettling for a lot of our toddlers. They anticipate the daily routine we have and going to another location in the school, in the middle of their work cycle, is disruptive. Erika Bridge (former toddler parent) will be taking some informal photos of the children. You will be provided with a classroom composite photo with everyone on it!

A final note, we are going to try to go apple picking at Clearview Orchard in Haslett on Thursday, October 10 (weather permitting). As always we will need parent volunteers to help with the drive and picking of the delicious fruit, so please let me know if you would be able to attend.

Thanks and Happy Fall.   Erin

  1. Erin, I will make sure to stop by, but I am available on Thursday (October 10) for a trip to orchard. Let me know how exactly I can help (Polina).

  2. Either Soren or I will be able to come on Thursday to the orchard. We have a small car but we could fit one child in addition to Severen if necessary.
